VUB Chair of Social Entrepreneurship launches ‘Social Entrepreneurship Challenge’ (SEC)

Do you consider yourself a creative person with an entrepreneurial mind? 
Do you imagine how sustainable problems can be solved through innovative methods? The Vrije Universiteit Brussel calls on students, entrepreneurs and employees to develop sustainable solutions for the most challenging problematics of the world, before 30th November.

The ‘Social Entrepreneurship Challenge’ (SEC) is an initiative of the VUB Chair of Social Entrepreneurship in partnership with Euroclear, Close the Gap, and
Belgium Impact. Social Entrepreneurs focus on using the available resources to create a better and progressive society by using business strategies to develop
solutions.

LAST YEAR’S EVENT – ‘CIRCULAR ECONOMY CHALLENGE’
In November 2019 we launched a call for the ‘Circular Economy Challenge’ which was similarly organised like the SEC to find students, entrepreneurs and other
innovative minds to launch a project that fits within the Brussels circular economy. We received more than 20 applications with impressive ideas to
resolve some of the most pressing sustainability issues in the city of Brussels, using circular economy.
16 projects and more than 46 participants were invited to the bootcamp, organised by Euroclear and Digytizer Brussels. 2600 people visited the website
and over 1500 votes were cast for the 10 projects with “Altepetl” being the winner of the competition.

THE COURSE OF THE COMPETITION

• 30th November 2020 - Submit your proposal: The deadline to submit your project for the SEC is 30 November 2020. Please submit your proposal at  https:www.vubsocialentrepreneurship.com/sec2020. Your proposal should specify your team composition, the current problem that want to solve, and the description of your idea. Proposals are due in English.
• December 2020 - First selection round: Selected teams will be invited to a one-on-one (online) meeting, with the organizers to receive feedback on their business idea.
• February 2021 - Virtual Bootcamp: Selected proposals will be announced until January 20th and will receive an invitation to join an online 2-day boot camp. The Bootcamp will be facilitated by Euroclear. It will take place in the second half of February 2021, dates to be communicated upon acceptance.
• March 2021 - Final event: After the Bootcamp, the teams will make a video, and the (online) audience will cast their votes to select the final winner.

This is your chance to develop your idea, test it, and make a difference for our society! The winner will have the opportunity to be surrounded by a rich network
of professionals from all the sponsoring institutions of this challenge.
